How to Book a Laboratory Test in Malaysia

Getting a laboratory test done in Malaysia is straightforward once you know the process. Here is everything you need — from obtaining a referral to collecting your results.

The 5-Step Process

1
Get a Doctor's ReferralVisit your GP or specialist and describe your symptoms or health concerns. Your doctor will determine which tests are appropriate and provide a laboratory request form. A referral is required for most diagnostic tests.
2
Choose Your Collection MethodDecide how you want your sample collected: walk-in at a collection centre (most common), scheduled appointment at a hospital laboratory, or mobile phlebotomy at your home or office. See the options below.
3
Prepare for Your TestFollow any preparation instructions — particularly fasting requirements. Drink plenty of water. Continue medications unless your doctor says otherwise. Bring your referral form and photo ID.
4
Attend Your AppointmentArrive at the collection centre or welcome the mobile phlebotomist. The blood draw takes 5–10 minutes. You may feel a brief pinch — it passes quickly. A small bandage is applied after.
5
Receive and Discuss Your ResultsResults go directly to your referring doctor. Follow up at your scheduled appointment to discuss what the results mean. See our guide on reading lab results if you want to understand your report before your appointment.
