A health screening — sometimes called a medical check-up — is a set of tests done on someone who feels well, to detect early signs of disease before symptoms develop. In Malaysia, health screening packages are available through private hospitals, clinics, laboratories and corporate wellness programmes.
Why Do a Health Screen?
Many serious conditions — including diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and early cancer — have no symptoms in their early stages. Regular screening allows these to be caught and managed early, when treatment is most effective.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health recommends routine screening from age 30 for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, and from 40 onwards for broader cardiovascular risk assessment.

Types of Packages
Basic / Essential Screen: Covers the fundamentals — blood count, cholesterol, sugar, liver and kidneys. Suitable for younger adults with no specific risk factors. Typically the most affordable option.
Comprehensive Screen: Adds cancer markers, thyroid, detailed cardiac risk and urine analysis. Suitable for adults 40+ or those with family history of disease.
Executive / Premium Screen: Includes imaging (X-ray, ultrasound), specialised hormonal panels, and a full doctor consultation with result discussion. Best for those who want a thorough annual check.
How to Prepare
- Fast for 8–12 hours before your appointment (water is permitted)
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing — you may need to provide a urine sample and have a blood draw
- Bring a list of all current medications and supplements
- Bring previous health screening results if available — your doctor can track changes over time
- Schedule for a morning appointment to make fasting more manageable
How often should you screen? Annual screening is recommended for adults over 40 or those with existing risk factors. Younger adults with no risk factors may screen every 2–3 years. Ask your doctor for a personalised recommendation.
After Your Screen
Results are usually reviewed by a doctor at a follow-up consultation included in your package. Use our results guide to understand your report before your consultation.
